Milwaukee 002: The Food
Happy Saturday everyone! The holidays are now over so all of the fatty and delicious food is also gone. I miss eating to my heart's content so I reminisced about all of the amazing food I had in Milwaukee. If you're in the area. I highly recommend all of these places.
Elsa's At The Park
833 N. Jefferson St.
Milwaukee, WI 53202
Elsa's is in downtown Milwaukee surrounded by other restaurants. We met here with BB's stepmom and I was blown away by how busy it was. It was lunch hour so this is obviously a go-to place. I ordered a cup of chili with a grilled cheese and this simple meal was ah-mazing. It came with fries as well so I was stuffed by the end of the meal. The atmosphere was beautiful too with a Christmas tree made of light bulbs suspended from the ceiling. It was a bit on the pricier side but worth it. They even give you a postcard with your check so you can remember them, it's that good.
9143 W. Appleton Ave.
El Greco can be described as one of those old-time diners. It had a cozy feel with festive decorations and flat screens on the walls showing Dr. Oz. I'll be honest, I was very confused by the menu. From the name, you see that it's a Greek restaurant. On the menu, you'll see that they also serve American, Mexican AND Chinese food. I had severe second thoughts but decided to order a gyro while BB ordered a breakfast skillet. Guys... the food blew me away. I am not sure what ethnicity these cooks are but they can cook anything. The gyro came with so much meat along with fries and tasted delicious. BB's breakfast skillet had eggs, bacon, and cheese atop a skillet of potatoes. I'm a bit reluctant to try the other foods but wouldn't be surprised if they are just as good as the ones we ordered.
Kopp's Frozen Custard
5373 N. Port Washington Rd.
BB was talking about going to Kopp's before we even got on the plane to Wisconsin so I knew he wouldn't let us leave without going there. I thought it was going to be a normal ice cream/custard place but oh was I wrong. It's different than a usual place as the inside is just a big waiting area with a huge kitchen and there are no real places to sit. Just tall, circular tables but no chairs. We ordered double cheeseburgers, fries, and an oreo milkshake. BB forgot to warn me that the burgers are H U G E. I finished maybe half of mine before quitting. These weren't your average burgers though, they were made with love. Kopp's will be on my top 5 list of burger places five-ever.
There are still 3 more places that made me drool during our trip but I'll save those for next week. What's your favorite place to eat?
