My Beach Day Packing List
It's beach day! Today Ri, Lo and I will be taking a mini road trip to Rehoboth Beach for some sun and fun. It'll be my first beach trip of the summer so I've been looking forward to this for about 2 weeks now. Whenever I'm packing I need to make a list, otherwise, I'm bound to forget something. Instead of the traditional written list, I decided to do little sketches instead.
Don't laugh, ok? I obviously need more practice but I actually like the awkward, quirky style these are in. They also actually look like real objects and not a picasso painting so I'll celebrate this small victory.
If you're heading to the beach soon, here's my go-to packing list:
A Cute Bathing Suit
I think I have a total of 4 bathing suits. I used to think this was total overkill until I wanted to take a dip in the pool more than once a week. Instead of immediately having to wash the one I just wore I can grab another. It's also nice to have mix and match ones just in case a bottom/top goes missing!
ESSENTIAL! The sun can be beaming so extra protection against UV rays is a must. Don't be like me and think "oh, black people don't get sunburn". THAT IS WRONG. The summer before my senior year of high school my family took a trip to Myrtle Beach and we all got burned. Needless to say, I didn't buy my high school senior portraits because my face was still a peeling, pink mess when they were taken.
Needed to a) look cute in and b) protect your eyes. I have a few pairs that I keep for sunny days like the beach and for my car just in case. I really need to get new contacts so I can actually wear sunglasses. I'm afraid to get prescription ones because they're so expensive and I don't want to lose them. Once I get new contacts no one can stop me.
A Good Book
Lounging in the sun with a good book is one of my favorite things to do. I've been known to fly through an entire book while sunbathing. Today I'll be bringing along Victoria by Daisy Goodwin so I can finally finish it. If you have any recommendations I'm all ears!
I usually bring two regular sized towels to cover more space. I should probably find an old bed sheet so I won't have to worry about the towels being too small. What I truly want is one of those cute circular ones! I've heard they're a bit expensive though but I don't understand why. It's just a circle.
The blazing hot sun plus salt water requires you to rehydrate with some cold water! I freeze a few bottles overnight so it takes a while for them to melt. If you have a mini cooler it's even better.
Right now my most comfortable sandals are my Jesus slippers, aka, my Birkenstocks. They aren't the cutest but I honestly don't know what my life was like before them. They're durable enough to withstand lots of walking and I can just kick them on and off in the sand. To hell with flip-flops
Last, but certainly not least, is FOOD! Boardwalk food is great but when you're low on funds like me it's great to pack your own. Quick sandwiches are my go-to with a small bag of chips. Before we start the trip I'll stop by Wawa for their amazing wraps. Eating on the beach is relaxing to me for some reason (until I accidentally eat sand).
And there you have it! I'm sure I'll be documenting the day on my IG stories so feel free to tag along.
